Timber
Timber may be protected as part of an Engineering solution with a specialised coating which provides a fire barrier of up to 60 minutes. This coating is used quite widely in the protection of timber in heritage buildings. This solution needs to be validated by the Fire Engineer and the Building Engineer prior to installation.
The underside of a timber floor may be protected by having a vermiculite based spray fire barrier installed.
Plaster/Other wall and ceiling linings
Surfaces can be coated with an acrylic intumescent coating to achieve an FRL of up to 90 minutes. The FRL that can be achieved is dependent on the lining material in place.
